What is Temovate?
Temovate (clobetasol propionate) is a topical (for the skin) corticosteroid. This medicine is available as a cream, an ointment, and a solution. The cream and ointment are used to treat skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. The solution is used to treat scalp conditions such as psoriasis and seborrhea.
Important Information
You should not use Temovate if you are allergic to clobetasol propionate. Do not use this medicine on a child younger than 12 years old. Steroids can affect growth in children. Talk with your doctor if you think your child is not growing at a normal rate while using this medicine.
Before taking this medicine
You should not use Temovate if you are allergic to clobetasol propionate.
To make sure Temovate is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- any type of skin infection;
- rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or acne;
- circulation problems;
- diabetes;
- a hormone disorder;
- high blood pressure;
- a heart rhythm disorder;
- a personal or family history of low potassium levels in your blood;
- cataracts or glaucoma;
- a viral skin infection (herpes simplex, chickenpox); or
- if you have recently received a vaccine.
How should I use Temovate?
Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Shake the Temovate lotion well just before each use. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not apply this medicine to your face, under your arms, or on your groin area without your doctor's advice.
Wash your hands before and after applying Temovate, unless you are using the medicine to treat the skin on your hands. Apply a thin layer of medicine to the affected area. Do not apply Temovate to open wounds, burns, or rashes. Do not wrap, bandage, or tape the area where you applied Temovate unless directed to do so by your doctor.
Do not bathe, shower, or swim right after applying Temovate. Wait at least 30 minutes before swimming or bathing.
Do not use Temovate on a child younger than 12 years old. Steroids can affect growth in children. Talk with your doctor if you think your child is not growing at a normal rate while using Temovate.
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using Temovate.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
