Common use

Diarex is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute, non-specific diarrhea in individuals aged 12 and above. It is suitable for diarrhea related to dietary changes, mild infections, stress, or medication side effects, where reduced motility and water absorption are therapeutic goals. It is not intended for chronic diarrheal conditions or those with fever or bloody stool without medical consultation.

Dosage and direction

Adults and children 12 years and older:
Initial dose: 2 tablets (4 mg Loperamide HCl) after the first loose stool, followed by 1 tablet (2 mg) after each subsequent loose stool.
Maximum daily dose: 8 tablets (16 mg) in 24 hours.
Take with a full glass of water; may be taken with or without food.
Use for no more than 48 hours without consulting a physician.

Precautions

• Do not use if diarrhea is accompanied by high fever or blood in stools.
• Consult a healthcare provider before use if you have liver impairment.
• Avoid in patients with conditions where constipation should be avoided.
• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a physician.

Contraindications

Missed dose

If a dose is missed after a loose stool, take 1 tablet as soon as remembered, unless it is nearly time for the next anticipated loose stool. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Symptoms may include CNS depression (drowsiness, stupor), nausea, vomiting, and urinary retention. In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Naloxone may be used as an antidote under medical supervision.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15–30°C) in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the packaging.
