Dosage and direction

Swallow whole with water; may be taken with or without food, though high-fat meals may delay sildenafil absorption. Sexual stimulation is required for medication efficacy. Drug interaction

Contraindicated with nitrates and nitric oxide donors. Potentiates hypotensive effects with alpha-blockers (require careful titration). CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, ritonavir) may increase concentrations—dose adjustment needed. Moderate interaction with alcohol. Grapefruit juice may increase bioavailability of sildenafil. Caution with antihypertensives and other vasodilators.

Missed dose

Not applicable for as-needed dosing. If a dose is missed and sexual activity is anticipated, take medication at the appropriate time before intercourse. Do not double dose to make up for missed administration.

Overdose

Symptoms may include severe headache, hypotension, syncope, prolonged erection. Supportive measures include Trendelenburg positioning and IV fluids for hypotension. Priapism requires immediate urological intervention. Dialysis not effective due to high protein binding. Contact poison control center (1-800-222-1222) or emergency services.

Storage

Store at 20-25°C (68-77°F); excursions permitted to 15-30°C (59-86°F). Keep in original blister packaging until use. Protect from light and moisture. Do not use if packaging is compromised or tablets appear discolored. Properly dispose of unused medication.
