atarax hydroxyzine
Atarax (hydroxyzine) is an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Atarax is used to treat anxiety and tension, to relieve the skin symptoms of allergies, to control nausea and vomiting, and to treat dry mouth. It is also used together with other medications given for anesthesia. Atarax may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Important Information
You should not use Atarax if you are allergic to hydroxyzine, or if you are pregnant. To make sure you can safely take Atarax, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions: liver disease; kidney disease; asthma, bronchitis, emphysema; glaucoma; difficulty urinating; or stomach ulcer, blockage in your intestines.
