Cefadroxil is an antibiotic medication that is used to treat various types of infections. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is effective against a wide range of bacteria. Cefadroxil is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by killling bacteria or preventing their growth. Cefadroxil is used to treat infections of the skin, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and soft tissue. It is also used to treat certain types of diarrhea. You should take cefadroxil with a full glass of water. Cefadroxil can be taken with or without food. Take cefadroxil at evenly spaced intervals to keep a constant level of medication in your body. Do not skip doses or stop taking cefadroxil without first talking to your doctor.
To ensure that cefadroxil is helping your condition and is not causing harmful effects, your blood may need to be tested often. Your kidney or liver function may also need to be tested. Do not miss any follow-up visits to your doctor. Cefadroxil is usually given for 7 to 14 days. Use cefadroxil for the full course of treatment. Do not skip any doses. Cefadroxil will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
Before taking cefadroxil, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have kidney disease, a history of intestinal problems, or diabetes. If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take cefadroxil.
FDA pregnancy category B. Cefadroxil is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
It is not known whether cefadroxil passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Older adults may be more likely to have side effects from this medication. Cefadroxil should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Take cefadroxil exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
If you miss a dose of cefadroxil, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
