Grifulvin V is an antifungal medication that is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, nails, and hair. Grifulvin V is available in generic form. Before taking this medicine
You should not use Grifulvin V if you are allergic to it, or if you have:
- liver disease; or
- porphyria (a genetic enzyme disorder that causes symptoms affecting the skin or nervous system).
To make sure Grifulvin V is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- diabetes;
- a blood disorder such as anemia (lack of red blood cells);
- kidney disease;
- psoriasis;
- seizures;
- depression;
- lupus; or
- if you take a blood thinner.
Grifulvin V can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
How should I take Grifulvin V?
Take Grifulvin V exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Grifulvin V is usually taken 2 to 4 times daily. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Take this medicine with a full glass of water. Drink plenty of fluids while you are taking Grifulvin V.
Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antifungal medication. Grifulvin V will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.
What should I avoid while taking Grifulvin V?
Avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds). Grifulvin V can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn may result. Use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 15) and wear protective clothing if you must be out in the sun.
Grifulvin V side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- unusual bruising or bleeding;
- numbness, tingling, or burning pain;
- vision problems;
- seizure (convulsions);
- upper stomach pain (that may spread to your back), dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
- fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, sores in your mouth and throat;
- easy bruising or bleeding (nosebleeds, bleeding gums), unusual weakness;
- pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating; or
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
Common Grifulvin V side effects may include:
- headache;
- dizziness, drowsiness;
- hair loss;
- mild stomach pain, nausea, vomiting;
- joint pain; or
- vaginal itching or discharge.
