  • Pneumonia
  • Skin and skin structure infections
  • Bloodstream infections

What are the side effects of Zyvox?

The most common side effects of Zyvox include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

What is the dosage for Zyvox?

The recommended dose of Zyvox for most infections is 600 mg given every 12 hours. For some infections, the dose may be increased to 600 mg given every 8 hours.

Which drugs or supplements interact with Zyvox?

Zyvox should not be given with serotonergic drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclic antidepressants, serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Zyvox should also not be given with drugs that increase the level of serotonin in the brain, such as tryptophan supplements and St. John's wort.

What are the possible food and drug interactions for Zyvox?

If Zyvox is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Zyvox with the following:

  • Tryptophan supplements
  • St. John's wort
  • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil), and sertraline (Zoloft)
  • Tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline (Elavil), desipramine (Norpramin), and protriptyline (Vivactil)
  • Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), such as duloxetine (Cymbalta) and venlafaxine (Effexor)
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), and tranylcypromine (Parnate)

What are the possible side effects of Zyvox?

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Zyvox.

Side effects may include:

  • Agitation
  • Anxiety
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Increased sweating
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Rash
  • Restlessness
  • Tremor

Interactions with this drug may occur with the following:

  • Tryptophan supplements

Zyvox precautions

Before taking Zyvox, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other oxazolidinone antibiotics such as linezolid; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: blood disorders (e.g., anemia, low white blood cells), liver disease, kidney disease, stomach/intestinal problems (e.g., bleeding, ulcers).

This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Avoid alcoholic beverages.

Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, and low blood pressure when getting up from a lying or sitting
